JCC Introduces Smart Speaker Technology

GRANVILLE, OH, SEPTEMBER 24, 2018: After a recent presentation JCC Hosting, LLC gave to the Granville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, company representatives Bob Wade and Keegan Hare were approached by Granville Public Library Director Anita Carroll, who asked about the possibility of JCC creating an Alexa Skill for the library. Carroll was looking for an Alexa Skill that would allow patrons to login with their library cards and reserve items for pickup. The Alexa Skill that JCC developed can easily do that, as well as provide several other useful features.

With the Alexa Skill, users can perform keyword searches to look for items in the library’s system, and provide its availability. It also can inform the user of the library’s hours on a given day, and provide information about events happening at the library. If the user has a Granville Public Library card, they can also put items on hold, find out what holds are ready for pickup, cancel holds, renew items, retrieve a list of items they have checked out, find out when their items are due, and check to see if they have any fines or fees.

The Granville Public Library Alexa Skill is free to use, and can be enabled on any Alexa capable device. It can be found by going to the Amazon Skill Store, and searching for the Granville Public Library.

JCC Hosting, LLC has provided server hosting options for the local community since 2012. In September of 2018, JCC started promoting Alexa Skills for local businesses.
